''Mainly because the automation is so well attuned to each other, we can both work in a structured way''
The cooperation between tile wholesaler Julius van der Werf and Veenstra|Fritom dates back approximately fifty years. The first logistic assignments resulted from an issue with tiles needing to be transported from Italy. What characterizes the cooperation is that both companies grew together. "We have a good cooperation with Veenstra|Fritom. We work really well together and are close to one another. We can both work in a structured manner, particularly because the automation is so well coordinated”.
Tile wholesaler Julius van der Werf supplies ceramic tiles to retailers, tilers and construction projects. Professional employees, the modern distribution center and the large stock ensure fast deliveries on location. In addition, companies find everything they need to supply complete tile work at the builders’ merchants located in the cities of Sneek and Groningen, in the north of the Netherlands. Financial director Menno Poelstra: "We want to guarantee our customers that we can deliver all tiles in the Netherlands within 24 hours. Because of Veenstra|Fritom as logistics partner this is an everyday reality”.
It is obvious that having a reliable logistics partner can also be beneficial for business results. "Often the goods have to be delivered to a construction site the next day. This has to be done with a tailboard and is always well organized. Even in the case of a tight delivery timeline, we can meet our agreements. We have even been able to broaden our sales channel because Veenstra|Fritom is exceptional at 24-hour distribution within the Netherlands". The company culture of Veenstra|Fritom appeals very much to Julius van der Werf: "The combination of a reliable partner with a comparable DNA and clear and well-functioning ICT is what makes Veenstra|Fritom a pleasant company to work with. The people at Veenstra|Fritom do what they say: no nonsense - they honour their word”.
Sister company Sanders|Fritom also plays a major role in its services. As a result of this cooperation, all orders for the southern part of the Netherlands are also be delivered within the 24-hour distribution. At the Julius van der Werf distribution center, pallets are already sorted by postal code and the southern postal codes are then placed in a Sanders|Fritom semi-trailer. This designated semi-trailer can head directly for the South. Due to the separation of pallets by postal code, taking place at Julius van der Werf itself, there is no transhipment needed at the distribution center of Veenstra|Fritom. Saving both parties valuable time.
Julius van der Werf and Veenstra|Fritom work really close together. When an order is planned, it is immediately forwarded via the IT link with Veenstra|Fritom. Thus, no further actions are required, and Julius van der Werf can pass on orders until late in the afternoon. Thanks to the high-quality IT-links, which are constantly being further developed, information always reaches Veenstra|Fritom correctly and on time. In addition to this link, there are also a number of trailers at Julius van der Werf. "Because of this, we never have a maximum number of pallets per day, keeping our services very flexible. An additional advantage of the good ICT is that Veenstra|Fritom has an excellent Track & Trace capability for all orders, giving our customers updates about their deliveries".
